With the DOPRail 1000 radar sensor HaslerRail developed a True Speed Over Ground (TSOG) sensor for rail vehicles using the Doppler effect. The DOPRail 1000 speed sensing is unaffected by wheel slip / slide. Comparing with rival Doppler radar sensors, the HaslerRail´s DOPRail 1000 is not affected by changes in the track bed substrate and therefore has no calibration shift.
The DOPRail 1000 incorporates two microwave radar modules to measure the vehicle speed over ground using the Doppler frequency shift effect. The DOPRail 1000 is based on monolithic microwave integrated circuit (MMIC) technology which is unsurpassed in terms of form factor and performance. With an optional inertial measuring unit (IMU) and intelligent signal evaluation integrated into the system, immunity from speed measurement deviations due to angular errors in mounting, pitch and roll is assured with DOPRail 1000.
The speed measurement of the DOPRail 1000 is neither affected by slip & slide effects nor by the wearing of the wheels as pulse generators are: The DOPRail 1000 is virtually maintenance free and needs no (re-)calibration since the sensing is independent of wheel diameter. A proven availability >99.3% predestines the sensor for ETCS and ATO applications. The DOPRail 1000 provides high sensing accuracy even on smooth surfaces such as concrete and tarmac which makes the DOPRail 1000 suitable for tram and trolleybus systems, as well.
